Visionary Watercolor Art, Toti Cuesta
My paintings depict a new reality in which the human being is united with nature, animals, and everything that surrounds us. A vision of the world as it could be.
A vision of the future
Visionary art is the form of creation that is born when I allow the work to find its own path without interfering in the process.
My watercolors start from reality: a face, a tree, a street in Madrid, or a landscape. During the creative process, connections begin to appear that open the image towards something more. Nature merges with the human figure, colors take on symbolic meaning, and the image speaks of something beyond the visible.
My goal is to awaken the awareness that life also includes the relationship we maintain with the planet that sustains us.
Holding life
In this watercolor, the feminine figure is Mother Nature: she holds life, cares, nurtures, and sustains the entire environment. She is also the branch of a tree on which the nest rests, supporting the mother bird as she feeds her chicks. The figure and nature are the same presence.
My feminine figures represent that force which gives life and sustains everything that exists. My paintings make visible the energy that appears in the tree, the bird, the water, and the root.
My paintings carry into the unconscious of whoever looks at them a new vision of reality: that caring for nature, animals, vegetation, and our cities means learning to respect the only place in which we can live.
About Me
I am Toti Cuesta, a watercolor and portrait artist based in Madrid. Throughout my career, I have developed my own visual language, in which symbols, colors, and forms serve as instruments to convey something beyond the visible.
My work has been recognized by international galleries and art organizations, which have highlighted the fusion of hyperrealism and oneiric surrealism as one of its most distinctive characteristics.

Beyond Surrealism
My watercolors draw on oneiric surrealism and take it into their own territory: a future reality that does not yet exist in the physical world but is already present in our consciousness.
What the international critics said
These are some of the reviews that international critics have written about my watercolors:
Contemporary Art Collectors wrote at the Global Art Virtuoso Award:
“Like the Surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, Toti Cuesta manipulates reality, creating forms that are both human and beyond the human.”
Myrina Tunberg Georgiou, Director of Circle Foundation for the Arts, added:
“The oneiric quality and exploration of identity evoke the works of Salvador Dalí, but Cuesta’s delicate brushwork and intimate portrayal of feminine beauty make the piece exclusively her own.”
In tune
In this watercolor, the feminine figure appears to be dissolving. What is actually happening is that she is tuning heart and mind into harmony. What we see are the circuits, the neural connections of that inner coherence she is connecting with. She looks to the universe seeking the answers she needs.
This is what my paintings show: inner states that art makes visible before physical reality materializes them.
When I Paint, I Disappear
My creative process unfolds between two worlds. I enter a deep silence, and thoughts come to a stop; the rhythm changes, movements slow, and consciousness expands.
It is a completely magical process in which the painting knows, it is the one that guides, and I surrender to it. I place myself at the service of art so that art can flow through me and materialize through my hand. There is no thought, only a resonant silence.
Many times when I finish painting, I look at the work, and it seems as if I am seeing it for the first time.
The Language of Symbols
In my watercolors, every element of nature carries a message.
The tree, the roots, the water, the animals, the mountain. Each one appears in my works with its own meaning, gradually building the sense of the image. They are not decorative elements or backgrounds: they are part of the visual language I work with.
In my compositions, the tree speaks of growth and transformation. The roots, of origin and memory. The water, of fluidity and change. The animals appear as symbolic presences that expand the meaning of the human figure. Each painting combines these elements in a different way, creating images open to multiple readings.
