This October, my watercolor painting “Magical Reality” is part of “Realms of Magic”, an online exhibition by HMVC Gallery New York, where it has been selected as a finalist.

Where does “Magical Reality” fit in?

My work enters this territory from a different place: visionary art.

When I say my painting is visionary, I’m not referring to a style or a specific aesthetic. I’m referring to the place from which the work emerges.

Magical Reality is part of my Tree Woman series. In this watercolor, the human figure and nature appear as manifestations of a single unity. It is not about a woman transforming into nature, nor about two realities merging. Their unity lies in the common origin from which both spring.

For me, this origin predates matter, when everything exists in potential and the forms we later perceive as separate have not yet manifested.

“Magical Reality” attempts to make that reality visible.

That is why I consider this work visionary. Not because it depicts a fantastical world, but because it seeks to go beyond what we perceive as visible and tangible and give form to something we cannot yet see.

A reality we have not yet seen

The title “Magical Reality” arose precisely from that idea.

For me, the magic isn’t in imagining an impossible reality. It lies in making visible another way of perceiving reality.

We’re used to looking at the world through forms and understanding those forms as separate entities: a person, a tree, a plant, the earth, water.

My painting starts from a different place. Before that diversity lies the common origin of all that is manifested.

In “Magical Reality”, that unity takes on a form.

That is the magical reality referred to in the title.

About the Exhibition

Realms of Magic brings together works in which the magical and the everyday coexist. The gallery presents the exhibition as a journey through three ways of understanding fantasy in art:

  • Magical realism, which introduces the extraordinary into everyday scenes without disrupting the logic of reality.
  • Surrealism, as exemplified by artists such as Leonora Carrington and Salvador Dalí, which explores the subconscious and transforms the inner world into a landscape.
  • Imaginative realism, which uses elements from the figurative tradition—light, anatomy, and perspective—to lend a credible presence to the impossible.
